Reviews:
  • Rayli
This is an all around good pressing! I'd give it ⭐⭐⭐ out of ⭐⭐⭐⭐. My copy didn't have any playback issues. The dynamics on the drums feel a tad "dead" imo but not terrible. This is definitely worth the money overall.
  • Gogal
The sound is great. Clear and dynamic. Couldn't be better...
  • Cordanius
Well it obviously could be better, you could of given it 4 or 5 stars instead...
  • Mildorah
Just had a listen to the 1992 CD . i wasn´t really surprised when i liked it way better than this reissue . I got to stop buying reissues , especially remastered ones . (check my collection if you would want some ) Every single one i have sounds awful ."Clarity , Detail , soundstage , and so on" are the words used to try to describe or sell us some dead sounding and mostly way too much high-frequency-EQ´ed .........it´s kind of magic how they manage to erase every single mojo and vibe from once , and still , great sounding recordings . i guess they just don´t care that much but about the money .
  • Adoraris
yea...this record sounds like absolute horseshit! such a damn shame.
  • Nanecele
A seriously good repress. 57 minutes on 1 disc, and no audible compromises. Clear, dynamic, bassy and, unlike other lengthy single-disc albums, cut surprisingly loud. Not sure how they managed this, as it looks like a regular lacquer-cut record, not DMM. I don't believe that Dirt was ever issued on vinyl in the US, so anyone from there interested in a copy should seek this one out. Nicely done, MoV!
  • Nightscar
MoV cut all of their vinyl using a DMM cutting system, so this is DMM.
  • Dianaghma
Second copy I got and again it's got a pressing error (a scratch that produces a 10 second click on the beginning of God Smack). Plus there's still quite noticeable inner groove distortion. Screw this pressing, I'm returning it and not buying it again. And, no, it's NOT a remaster. I got Them Bones (7 inch single) and it sounds exactly the same as the one in this pressing.
  • Mr Freeman
My copy of this record sounds great. I also have an MOV pressing of Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits, and that sounds even better. Don't dismiss the whole of the MOV series on the grounds of one particular album. They get a lot of great feedback from people, and a lot of their pressings are quite good. Some may sound bad, but clearly not all.
  • Morlurne
It is a remaster, every time you cut a lacquer...that is essentially a remaster in vinyl terms.
  • Nenayally
MOV pressings are awful, I had the same problem with another relase, two copies bought both had the same identical faults
  • Netlandinhabitant
Reasonable price for a reasonable sounding record. Why it wasn't a double LP certainly baffles the mind.
  • Celen
Overall, sounds great. But for a MOV pressing, it's disappointing.
  • Nilarius
This pressing sounds good to me. This doesn't sound as good as the CD. Quiet vinyl and good quality jacket and sleeve. Reasonable price. Pick this one up.
  • Fato
my MOV dirt sleeve is a joke. crap quality. bought eons ago.
  • Realistic
I hesitated to buy this for a while based on some reviews here and in another forum but went ahead and picked it up anyway and I was pleasantly surprised. It's by no means an audiophile or demo-quality disc but it does sound good to me. I don't even have the CD anymore to do a proper A/B but based on memory alone, this vinyl pressing seems to "open up" the songs a little more. I can hear more detail and the recording seems slightly more tame or even to me. Unless you're super picky, I'd recommend getting this pressing.
  • Meztisho
Sounds dull compared to the original CD, soundstage and instrument separation are lacking in comparison. They might have used the original tapes for this pressing but it is not all analog, probably a hi-res transfer in 24/96. Thing is a 24/96 transfer should sound better than a CD, so maybe the problem is that they just tried to cram to much music onto one LP, a 58 minute album should at least be spread over 3 sides for optimum sound quality. Either way I'll just stick to the original CD.
  • Jube
What kind of gear are you using. Just curious.
  • Capella
I’m afraid that Music on Vinyl have given the wrong info here. If it used the same plates, the matrix numbers would match that of the original pressing or the original matrix would be visible or possibly marked out. This is guaranteed a 96/24 transfer cut at MOV. Learn to read the matrix, as it helps you tell who mastered your records. Not trying to discredit you, just trying to help....enjoy your records! ????
  • luisRED
i agree. something is not right with this thing. this release does not do justice.
  • grand star
Nope. MOV has confirmed that the original EU metal parts were used for this pressing. Nothing digital here. Just goes to show how much self-proclaimed audiophiles on here blame digital files for everything.
  • Arakus
Given that they crammed 52+ minutes of fairly high-dynamic-range music onto this thing, it sounds really really really good. I would absolutely recommend this.
  • Rrd
I have done an A/B comparison of this versus the Simply Vinyl pressing, and this smokes the SV pressing, hands down. Everything I have purchased from MOV sounds great.
  • Oghmaghma
Just received this and it sounds amazing. Great vinyl mastering. Bass and soundstage is perfect! Highly recommend this reissue.
  • Iseared
Sounds great on my system. According to MOV Facebook page, this one is pressed from original tapes!
  • MegaStar
Unfortunately it's still digitally sourced. MOV does this with all their releases. They still sound great though.
  • Tisicai
A review of the Music on Vinyl European release. Unfortunately, not a great sounding record by any means. From what I heard, most to all tracks sound quite tinny. Nowhere near the same standard as the Jar of Flies/Sap reissue, which was also pressed by MoV. As a result, I would not be in a rush to listen to this one again any time soon.
  • Tiv
Do you own the album or you're just repeating what you heard?
  • Monam
Sounds absolutely amazing. Noticed Down In A Hole the most with such clarity of the vocals. Bass line on sickman sounds awesome as well.
  • Rolling Flipper
This album sounds GREAT! Buy if you want it! You want be let down.
  • Kalrajas
I would highly recommend this release. MOV only makes high quality vinyl. The album sounds fantastic, especially the vocals of Staley/Cantrell harmonizing. The actual quality of the vinyl, artwork and sleeve are very high.
  • Nicearad
Any one would recommend this release?
  • Tantil
http://www.discogs.com/Alice-In-Chains-Dirt/release/3475228Is the same edition? red vinyl version too?
  • Zolorn
the one you linked is the limited coloured print. the masters used are the same for both the standard black vinyl and the colored one.
  • Kelerius
This album is so heavy and so personal, it's hard for me to listen end to end, but it's also a masterpiece of lyrics and music. Layne does some of his best singing here.
  • Stick
Would? is the coolest song ever! Too bad the lead singer died of heroin, but now them bones is a song on the PS2 guitar game. These guys were the hidden gems of the Seattle '92 grunge faze. Pearl Jam was too open and christian ethic'ed, Nirvana was too perverted, and Sound Garden had too much of a clean production/commercialism edge. No one knew I'm growin' hungry, but Alice in Chains was the coolest "Alternative" series around. Yup, yup...
