Album

Gentle Giant is the first album by British progressive rock band Gentle Giant, released in 1970. Since the LP was not originally released in the United States, the cover illustration was not available. It first appeared in the United States and Canada with the same cover as the Three Friends album. American hip-hop duo Madvillain sampled Funny Ways on Strange Ways from their album Madvillainy, which was subsequently featured in an episode of the television show The Boondocks. While the selection is a bit heavy on the latter album a quarter of the collection is from this one record, it still manages to contain a good cross section of GG's work. Still, I would recommend the complete albums over this collection, and the CD The Edge Of Twilight is a much more complete compilation. Gentle Giant arrived on the scene approximately at the same time as everybody else - in 1970 however, they never really made it big, and it's not difficult to see why. Or, wait, now that I finally braced myself to explaining this, it's actually quite difficult. Let's try it that way: on one hand, the advantages of Gentle Giant and their differences from other prog bands of the time are rather obvious.
